About Maid Brigade of Frederick County

Maid Brigade of Frederick County is a locally owned and operated franchise of Maid Brigade, cleaning homes in Frederick County since 1989 and owned by Rachel and Duane Epperly since 2018. We’re at 180 Thomas Johnson Drive in Frederick. Our technicians are employees, bonded and insured, and they’ve been with us seven years on average. We have full-time cleaning crews devoted to keeping Frederick clean and healthy.

How we got here

Rachel, in her words:

“I started cleaning homes in 1989 and worked my way into management. In 1994 my father wanted to see me set up with a business of my own, so we bought a Maid Brigade franchise in Rockville. I was 24. I didn’t need the cleaning training; I had that. I needed the business support, and that is what the franchise gave me.

“I knew the previous owner of the Frederick office for more than 20 years. Our territories were next to each other and we worked well together. When she was ready to retire, she asked if I would buy it, and she told me she asked because she knew I would take care of the business and her customers. Since 2018 we have replaced the cleaning equipment and supplies, moved the office to a better location for our staff, and refined how we clean.

“What has never changed is why I do this. I love cleaning, and I love what it does for people. The difference between a home when we walk in and when we walk out a few hours later means a great deal to our customers and their families. Home is where we rest and recharge. We want our customers to Love Being Home.”

Who runs things

Rachel Epperly, owner. Cleaning homes since 1989; owner of the Rockville office since 1994, which she opened with her father, and of the Frederick office since 2018. Under her, the franchise was Maid Brigade’s national Rookie of the Year in 1995 and national Franchise of the Year in 2001 and 2015. Rachel still sets how we clean and what we clean with. Local owners, on site and serving.

Duane Epperly, owner. Our IT guy and Mr. Fix-It: the systems, the phones, the website, and whatever breaks.

LaShae Lawton, Frederick Manager, runs the Frederick office. She’s been with us since 2008 and started in the field, which is why she knows what you’re expecting before you say it. She does the in-home visits and inspections, and she’s the one who answers the phone, the texts and the email when you need to reschedule, add something to a visit, or ask anything at all. The phones ring in both our offices, so some days it’s Rachel or Mercy Garcia, who runs our Gaithersburg office, who picks up; any of them can help you.

Aura Comayagua is our Field Manager. She has been with us more than 20 years, started on a cleaning crew, led a crew, and now trains, inspects and manages the equipment and supplies for all our teams. Her job is to keep the standard of cleaning where Rachel set it. You’ll often meet her on a first clean, a quality check or an in-home estimate.

Our Frederick teams are led by Esperanza, who has been with us more than three years; Rosa, who has been with us more than ten years and is, in Rachel’s words, our stable rock; and Tania, with more than two years of experience. When Frederick is full, our Gaithersburg office sends a team to help.

The people who clean your home

Every technician is an employee of ours, never a contractor. Every one is bonded and insured, covered by workers’ compensation, and background-checked when hired. They arrive in uniform, in a company car, in a team of two, sometimes three when teams combine. Across our two offices we have more than 36 technicians. Field staff have been with us seven years on average; supervisors, ten. Some of our customers have been with us more than 30 years; some of our staff, more than 20.

The issues we hear about the most: being let down by a service or an individual on reliability, professionalism, damage or theft, and wanting someone you don’t have to worry about.

How we clean

A set list, room by room, every visit. What’s included is the same for a first-time customer and a recurring regular customer.

Our two main cleaners, a degreaser and a disinfectant, are made in our office from salt, water and electricity, called electrolyzed water. The chemistry is Green Seal certified and the disinfectant is registered with the EPA. Color-coded microfiber, HEPA-filtered vacuums, no perfume, no caustic chemicals. Maid Brigade was the first national house cleaning company to be green certified, in 2007, and PUREcleaning, which came in 2019, is our best cleaning ever. More on green cleaning.

Mistakes happen, and when they do we make it right. If any area we cleaned isn’t right, call the office within 24 hours and we come back within one business day to re-clean it at no charge.

What you’ll never see from us

Every person in our photos is a real employee or customer. Replies to reviews, messages and emails come from a person at the office, by name. Testimonials and reviews are real, dated and unedited. The origin story and the owners’ words above are their own. We use software to transcribe, organize and check our work; the pages are written and edited by named people.
