Point of Rocks as we know it

Point of Rocks is the village at the bridge to Virginia: the old houses down by the river, the railroad and the canal, and the newer subdivisions on the hill above them, where most of the homes we clean are. A lot of the people here ride the MARC train from the station in the morning or drive across the bridge to Loudoun County, and the house is empty from early until evening.

That shapes how we work here. Most Point of Rocks customers aren’t home when we come, so the key, the garage code or the alarm code is settled when you book, the team texts you when they’re on the way, and you come home to it done. About half of our customers keep a key with us; keys are number-coded, locked in our office every night and carry no indication of the address. A typical first clean of a three-bedroom home runs about three hours for a team of two; after that, about an hour or two per visit, depending on the home.

We clean homes all over Point of Rocks (ZIP 21777), including near the Point of Rocks Railroad Station, the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath, Point of Rocks Community Commons Park and the Edward F. Fry Memorial Library.

What we do in Point of Rocks

Recurring regular cleaning, every other week for most Point of Rocks homes, timed to a weekday when the house is empty. Deep cleaning before the holidays. Move-in and move-out cleaning, with the turnover between tenants that comes with a commuter town. House cleaning once. On-call cleaning, where you’re not on a schedule and you call us when you want a visit, some people every month and some twice a year. All of it with green cleaning products made in our office from salt, water and electricity, which means a healthier home for you.

We also clean for second homes and families with a new baby in Point of Rocks.

Nearby towns we also clean: Tuscarora, Adamstown, Brunswick, Jefferson and Knoxville.

A little history about Point of Rocks

Canal vs. railroad at the rocky point

On July 4, 1828, the C&O Canal and the B&O Railroad both broke ground, and both wanted the same narrow strip of land where the Potomac cuts through the mountain at Point of Rocks. The fight went to court and held up both projects until about 1832, when the courts sided with the canal. In the end the canal and the railroad ran side by side through the gap. E. Francis Baldwin’s Gothic Revival station

The B&O built the Point of Rocks station in the mid-1870s, where its new Metropolitan Branch from Washington meets the main line. Baltimore architect E. Francis Baldwin most likely designed it. The Maryland Historical Trust calls the brick Gothic Revival station, with its four-story tower, unusually sophisticated for a rural setting. Source: Maryland Historical Trust, SAH Archipedia

A Civil War river crossing

The bridge, the canal and the railroad made Point of Rocks a contested river crossing in the Civil War. Confederates burned the Potomac bridge on June 14, 1861, and the town became a transfer point for Union troops and supplies. Source: C&O Canal Trust
