Braddock Heights as we know it
Braddock Heights is the old summer resort on top of Braddock Mountain, between Frederick and the Middletown Valley. The houses along the ridge are from the resort years, big frame places with wraparound porches, tall windows, original floors and a lot of trim, and the lanes behind them have everything from 1920s cottages to houses built last decade. Below the ridge on both sides are the newer subdivisions off Route 40 Alternate and the lots down toward Jefferson.
The old houses are detail work: the trim, the porch, the stairs, the windows that open the old way. We vacuum under furniture as far as the vacuum reaches and we don’t move heavy pieces, which in these houses is most of them. A typical first clean of a three-bedroom home runs about three hours for a team of two, longer in the big ridge houses; after that, about an hour or two per visit, depending on the home.
We clean homes all over Braddock Heights, including near the Braddock Heights Village Center and Braddock Mountain.
What we do in Braddock Heights
Recurring regular cleaning, weekly, every other week or monthly. Deep cleaning, which the old houses need on the first visit. Move-in and move-out cleaning. House cleaning once. On-call cleaning, where you’re not on a schedule and you call us when you want a visit, some people every month and some twice a year. All of it with green cleaning products made in our office from salt, water and electricity, with nothing caustic on the old finishes.
We also clean for second homes and people who work from home in Braddock Heights.
Nearby towns we also clean: Middletown, Jefferson, Frederick, Burkittsville and Myersville.
A little history about Braddock Heights
A mountaintop resort built by the trolley company
Braddock Heights was planned as a place for trolley riders to go. Executives of the Frederick-area trolley company laid out a mountaintop resort to draw passengers, and service from Frederick began on August 22, 1896. The trolley carried visitors to hotels, summer homes and boarding houses along the crest of the mountain. The amusement park: carousel, casino and skating rink
The resort’s amusement park had picnic grounds, pony and miniature-train rides, an indoor carousel, a Ferris wheel and a “casino” for skating and bowling. The first structure on the mountain was a three-story observation tower, built in 1893. The park operated into the 1960s. Source: Hagerstown & Frederick Railway Historical Society
