Tell Us About Your Home
Urbana as we know it
Urbana is mostly newer homes: the Villages of Urbana, Urbana Highlands and the communities around them, built from the late 1990s on, with open kitchens, a lot of hardwood, a finished basement more often than not, and a first floor that’s one big room. Those houses clean a certain way. The high dusting matters because of the two-story foyers and the ceiling fans, the hardwood gets a damp microfiber mop and never a wet one, and the kitchen is the room that shows. A typical first clean of a three-bedroom home runs about three hours for a team of two; after that, about an hour or two per visit, depending on the home.
Outside the villages there are the older farmhouses and the larger lots toward Sugarloaf Mountain and along Route 80, where the clean is the same and the driveway is longer.
Many Urbana customers are commuters on I-270 who are out all day, so a garage code or a key with the office is the usual arrangement, and a Friday visit before the weekend is the usual ask.
Around Urbana (ZIP 21704), we clean homes in the Villages of Urbana, Urbana Highlands and the Woodlands at Urbana. That includes homes near Urbana Regional Library, the Urbana Village Center and Urbana District Park.
What we do in Urbana
Recurring regular cleaning, weekly or every other week, is most of our Urbana work. Deep cleaning before guests or the holidays. Move-in and move-out cleaning and new construction cleaning as the newer sections fill in. House cleaning once, for whatever reason. On-call cleaning, where you’re not on a schedule and you call us when you want a visit, some people every month and some twice a year. All of it with green cleaning products made in our office from salt, water and electricity, with no perfume, which matters in a house that’s closed up all day.
We also clean for families with a new baby and working parents in Urbana.
Nearby towns we also clean: Ijamsville, Buckeystown, New Market and Monrovia.
A little history about Urbana
Landon House, said to have been moved from Virginia
Landon House on Urbana Pike dates to 1846. The story told about it is that Rev. R.H. Phillips had the house moved from the Rappahannock River near Fredericksburg, Virginia, and rebuilt in Urbana. No archive record confirms the move. What is recorded is the house’s life as a school: a female seminary, then a boys’ military institute in the mid-1850s, then a girls’ academy again by the late 1850s. Source: Maryland Historical Trust
Both armies pass through Landon House
In September 1862 both armies came through Landon House. On September 8, Confederate cavalry under J.E.B. Stuart held a dance there that broke up when a skirmish started nearby, and the wounded were brought into the house for care. On September 16, Union troops rested there. Soldiers from both sides left writing on the walls. Source: Crossroads of War
