Step 1 of 2

Woodsboro as we know it

Woodsboro is a real town with a Main Street, the brick houses along it from the 1800s and the frame houses on the side streets, and a few small subdivisions on the edges where the newer homes went in. Past the town limits it’s farms along Israel Creek and the roads toward Ladiesburg and Keymar. It is close to Frederick, closer than most people think, and we’re in Walkersville and Woodsboro on the same days.

The Main Street houses are narrow and tall: three floors of stairs, small bathrooms, old wood floors and plaster walls. The floors get a flat microfiber mop that’s damp, not wet, and we don’t use caustic chemicals, acids or alkalis on anything, so the old finishes are safe. The subdivision houses are the usual colonials and ranchers and clean the way you’d expect. A typical first clean of a three-bedroom home runs about three hours for a team of two; after that, about an hour or two per visit, depending on the home.

Around Woodsboro (ZIP 21798), we clean homes in Copper Oaks, Meadow View, Weinberg Knolls, Rose Woods Condominiums, Woodbury Subdivision and Spring Mill Estates. That includes homes near Woodsboro Park, the Woodsboro Train Station, the Woodsboro Fire Company and Woodsboro Evangelical Lutheran Church.

A little history about Woodsboro

Col. Joseph Wood’s ‘Woodsberry’

Woodsboro started as Woodsberry. Col. Joseph Wood, a Revolutionary War militia officer, platted the town on the east side of the Monocacy, and the town dates its layout to 1786. Over the years the name went from Woodsberry to Woodsberrytown, Woodsborough and Woodsboro, and the Town of Woodsboro incorporated in 1836. Source: Maryland Historical Trust, Town of Woodsboro

Smith’s Rosebud Salve, made famous from Woodsboro since 1895

In 1895 Woodsboro druggist Dr. George F. Smith started the Rosebud Perfume Company. Its Rosebud Salve has been shipped from the Rosebud Building on Main Street, a former hotel, for more than a century. Smith also served 19 years as the town’s mayor. Lime-burning country

Leonard Barrick started a lime plant at Woodsboro in 1874. Kilns in the area burned local limestone into powdered lime for farm fertilizer and crushed stone for roads. In 1907 Barrick bought the Fountain Rock kilns near Walkersville as an extra quarry for his Woodsboro plant. Source: Frederick County Parks and Recreation
