Tell Us About Your Home
Rocky Ridge as we know it
Rocky Ridge is farm country east of Thurmont: the houses strung along Route 77 and Motters Station Road, the old rail stop the village grew up around, and the farms and acre lots between there and Emmitsburg. There’s no subdivision here to speak of. The homes are farmhouses, ranchers and newer houses set back on their own land, with a well, a long drive and a view.
The office groups Rocky Ridge with Thurmont, Emmitsburg and Sabillasville on the same days, so it’s a regular stop and not a special trip, and we ask for a little flexibility on the window. The work here is the farm-country kind: the mudroom first, the kitchen hard-used, the well water leaving its marks on the glass and the taps. A typical first clean of a three-bedroom home runs about three hours for a team of two; after that, about an hour or two per visit, depending on the home.
Around Rocky Ridge (ZIP 21778), we clean homes in Motter’s Station. That includes homes near Mount Tabor Park, the Rocky Ridge Fire Company, the Loys Station Covered Bridge and Rocky Ridge Road.

A little history about Rocky Ridge
Mount Tabor Park and the Big Slide
Mount Tabor Park was bought and dedicated as a church retreat in 1919. In the spring of 1950 volunteers built its wooden Big Slide, 35 feet high and 100 feet long. It burned in 1951 and was rebuilt. Source: Emmitsburg Area Historical Society
Once called Ogleton
In 1789 the village was called Ogleton, after the family that owned the land, according to a Historical Society of Frederick County document. Who gave it the name Rocky Ridge is not known. Source: Emmitsburg Area Historical Society
Railroad station and post office arrive
The railroad and the mail reached Rocky Ridge in the same year. In 1870 a Western Maryland Railroad station opened in the village, and so did a post office, with James Black as the first postmaster. Source: Emmitsburg Area Historical Society
